The non-negotiables.
We're not looking for a picturesque backdrop. We're looking for a place that holds a specific kind of life for six weeks.
That means the shortlist has conditions — not preferences, not aesthetic wish-lists, but requirements the place either meets or doesn't. Each one comes from a concrete concern: what happens on a grey Tuesday in week four, not week one.
- Materials
- Timber, stone, unfinished surfaces. Nothing resort-grade. The building should have a relationship with weather, not a defense against it.
- Distance
- Far enough from busy settlements that leaving is an act, not an accident. Close enough to a town that restocking a week's groceries isn't a logistics problem.
- Capacity
- 15 people sleeping under one roof, or spread across buildings on one property. Shared kitchen and at least one large common room. Privacy doors on every bedroom.
- Work
- Reliable internet, enough desk space that two people can work simultaneously without choreography. The infrastructure for focused mornings.
- Weather
- The building should make rain, cold, and long dusk feel like conditions to live inside, not inconveniences to wait out. Woodstoves count.
- Terrain
- Walkable from the door — trails, water, elevation. Not curated; just accessible without a car.
The location stays undisclosed until the first group is confirmed. These conditions are what's doing the filtering in the meantime.
